Home Organization Projects You’ll Want to Tackle This Summer

Summer is a great time to take on some home organization projects. You’ve got a little extra time, the weather is great, and you’ve got the kids home from school to help out (hey, you can dream, right?).

Of course, you might not know where to start. If you’re looking to make your home a little more organized this summer, we’ve come up with some home organization projects that will give you a lot of bang for your buck and help you feel accomplished.

Clear out the photos.

It can be fun during the summer to look back and reflect on some of the fun trips you’ve had over the years. You might as well get a little organizing done in the process! Take this opportunity to sort through your photos. If you have hard copies, consider scanning them to free up some space in your closet. If they’re already digital, scroll through your albums looking for duplicates, and delete any pictures you don’t absolutely love.

Take on “the project.”

Almost every home has “that space,” the one that never seems to be organized or clutter-free, no matter what you try. Take advantage of lazy summer days by chipping away at your big project, whether it’s a hall closet, spare room, or pantry. If you’re lucky, you’ll finish by the time summer ends; but even if you don’t finish, you can make great progress!

Figure out seasonal storage.

Wondering why you’re still letting your winter coats take up all that closet space in the summer months? Now is the time to finally get a season storage system in place. Clear out all your winter items—heavier clothes, cold weather accessories, holiday deocrations, etc.—and put them somewhere where they’ll be really out of your way for the season. A storage unit is a great option!

Set up a calendar.

Summer schedules can be tricky. Without the typical school schedule keeping everything in a set rhythm, you might find yourself constantly having to remember who needs to be where, at what time, for what activity. Take a few minutes to set up a calendar that will help you organize your time this summer. Whether it’s a wall calendar or a digital one, it will make all the difference!

Get the art supplies under control.

If you have kids home from school for the summer, you know they need a good amount of activities to keep them busy (or at least, to keep them from watching cartoons all day). One great summer organization project is to get your art supplies—all those crayons, paints, papers, and glitters—under control. Keeping everything organized will make it easier for your kids to get creative.

Clear out the garage.

Take advantage of the sunny days and spend an afternoon cleaning out your garage. Be brutal as you decide what you need to keep and what it’s time to let go of. Who knows? You might find enough to set up a whole garage sale! (Don’t forget to have a lemonade stand, too!)

Take on one of these home organization projects this summer, and your home will feel a little more organized and in control, even amidst all the summer chaos!
