Moving Hacks that Will Help Your Move Go Smoothly

Let’s face it: moving is a pain. It’s time consuming, energy draining, and just all-around exhausting.

Thankfully, there are some things you can do to help your move go a little more smoothly. While these hacks might not guarantee a hassle-free experience, they’ll certainly help you as you try to move into your new home with as little fuss as possible.

Buy extra supplies.

You might think you’ll be able to get away with 25 moving boxes and one roll of tape, but the truth is that most people have more stuff than they think. Buy a lot of extra boxes and a few extra rolls of tape (along with whatever labeling supplies you’re using) to make sure that you won’t have to run to the store in the middle of your move. A little preparation goes a long way. And if you end up with unused materials, you can always return them.

Label the right way.

Labelling your boxes isn’t always as easy as writing down the contents. To make your move go more smoothly, consider labelling your boxes based on the room they will belong in at your NEW home. After all, it doesn’t really matter what is in the box, as long as it reaches its destination, right? This will help immensely as you unload your moving truck, and as you unpack. Some families even take this a step further by color-coding the writing on the box (green labels go in the kitchen, blue in the master bedroom, etc.). Take the time to do it right, and save time down the road.

Get help.

Trying to move by yourself is going to make your experience much worse. If you have family or friends close by, consider asking for their help to make your move quicker and easier. Remember to have plenty of water to keep your helpers hydrated, and consider buying them breakfast or lunch to show your thanks. If you don’t have people you could ask for help, or if you just want your stuff handled with extra care, professional movers can be hired. Many people consider this expense to be more than worth the cost!

Use a storage unit.

A storage unit can be very useful during a move. Often, a storage unit is a necessity, because of a gap from the time the family must leave their old home to the time the new home is available. Also, if you happen to be moving into a furnished rental home, you will need a place to safely store your own furniture and decor. Beyond the necessary situations, however, are times when a storage unit simply comes in handy. You may, for example, have boxes full of things you won’t need right away.

A storage unit would be a great place to keep such things, until you’re settled in your home and can handle the extra stuff. It could also be a great place to keep large items that you aren’t sure about fitting in your new home, whether that be furniture, large artificial plants, or a piano. Giving yourself time to get used to your new surroundings, without too much clutter in the way, will help your transition into a new home be a more pleasant experience.

Hopefully, these moving hacks have given you some insight into how to make your upcoming move a smooth experience.
